Swim for the Warriors

The instant I heard what my friend Jay Platt was planning to do as a benefit for the Wounded Warrior Project, I thought “He’s crazy!”  And it’s true…in the best way possible.

Handcuffed, shackled, and blindfolded, he’s going to cross the Mississippi River on November 11, 2011.

Why?

Because he’s crazy committed to living out the truth that some of life’s very best is what they said couldn’t and wouldn’t be done.  And, he is determined to honor the sacrifices of the heroes of our country in the process.

Jay was medically retired from the Marine Corps due to a diagnosis of a rare cancer that doctors said would put his best years far behind him.  And he made the choice to be Mr. Unstoppable.

The year following his diagnosis, he completed a southbound thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, (that’s more than 2,100 miles!).  And a few years after that, he became one of only 3 people in history to swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco with his hands and feet tied.  He’s also completed many marathons and triathlons that truly challenge the mental and physical commitment, all along the way speaking at events and encouraging others that they can overcome any life challenge in their path.

His passion in life has become helping others recognize their potential as unstoppable.  You can see in his every action that he doesn’t just believe Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” he lives it.  He’s been really inspirational and motivating to me in not only my business, but my own day to day life.

There will be more details, and more of the story to follow.  Jay’s training is in South Carolina…and I’ll capture more of his story in pictures in a couple of months.  (My zoom lens just won’t reach that far!).  For now, I’ll be working with him on visual media.

I encourage you to follow Jay’s training for this event.  As an added bonus, every Facebook follower in the month of July equals a $1 donation to the Wounded Warriors Project.  Click here to visit his page.

Do you have an area of life you’re working on conquering?  I’m looking forward to sharing more about this event, and learning from Jay how to be unstoppable!
